Information we collect
Depending on how you use HALTE, we may process:
- Account details, including your email address and authentication identifiers.
- Profile information such as display name, permanent handle, organisation, homebase and profile photo.
- Precise location, place name, check-in duration and visibility while you create an active check-in.
- Friend connections, requests, blocks and related account interactions.
- Chat messages and conversation metadata.
- Device notification tokens and basic technical information required to deliver notifications and operate the service.
- Information you send when requesting support.
How we use information
We use this information to create and secure accounts, show permitted check-ins, enable friendships and chats, deliver notifications, provide support, prevent abuse and maintain the service.
Location and visibility
Location access is used when you ask HALTE to find your location or create a check-in. Check-ins may be Public or Friends only, according to the option you select. An active check-in remains available until it expires or you check out. Do not use HALTE to share a location when doing so could put you or someone else at risk.
Service providers
HALTE uses service providers to operate the app, including Google Firebase for authentication, databases, file storage, server functions and messaging, and Apple platform services for maps, device permissions and push notifications. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments.
Sharing and sale of information
We do not sell personal information. Information is shared with other users only as needed for features you choose, with service providers that operate HALTE, when required by law, or when necessary to protect users and the service.
Retention and deletion
Information is retained for as long as needed to provide HALTE, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and protect the service. Active check-ins expire according to their selected end time. You can delete your account in the app. Account deletion removes the authentication account and makes a best-effort removal of your profile, check-ins and friend connections. Messages already shared in conversations may be retained so the conversation remains coherent for other participants, and limited information may remain temporarily in backups or logs.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Protect your password and contact us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
Your choices
You can change location and notification permissions in iOS Settings, edit most profile information in HALTE, block users, check out at any time and delete your account. For privacy questions or requests, email legal@halte.haus.
Children
HALTE is not directed to children. You must be legally able to consent to the processing described here, or use HALTE with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian where applicable.
Changes
We may update this policy as HALTE develops. The current version and its effective date will always appear on this page.
